COURSE DESCRIPTION This course introduces students to the systematic and scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. Students will explore and apply psychological theories, key concepts and phenomena associated with topics such as: *biological basis of behavior *sensation and perception *learning and cognition *motivation *developmental psychology *testing and individual differences *treatments of psychological disorders *social psychology Throughout the course, students will employ psychological research methods, including ethical considerations, as they use the scientific method, evaluate claims and evidence, and effectively communicate ideas.
AP Psychology is a challenging course that is equivalent to a college course. It is a course designed “to introduce students to the systematic and scientific study of behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals. Students are exposed to the psychological facts, principles, and phenomena associated with each of the major sub fields within psychology. They also learn about the ethics and methods psychologists use in their science and practice.” (Advanced Placement Course Description in Psychology) Solid reading and writing skills, along with a willingness to devote considerable time to homework and study, are necessary to succeed.
